Buying a New Yacht
A new yacht offers a factory-fresh vessel, a known specification and warranty coverage — along with decisions about options, timing and value that are worth understanding before you sign.
The appeal of factory-new
A new yacht has no previous owner, no hidden history and the latest version of the builder’s design, systems and equipment. For many buyers, that certainty is worth paying for.
Model selection and configuration
New-build buyers can often choose layout variations, interior finishes, engine packages, electronics and optional equipment on suitable models. Options can transform a yacht’s usability — and its price. Prioritize the options that matter for your use, such as stabilization, generator capacity and air conditioning for warm Mexican waters, before cosmetic upgrades.
Warranties and their terms
Builder warranties, and separate warranties on engines and major equipment, vary in scope and length. Understand what is covered, for how long, how claims are made and whether service is available where you plan to keep the boat.
Delivery timing and availability
Availability depends on production schedules and dealer stock. A boat that suits your plans for next season may not be available in time, and delivery dates can move. Agree a written schedule, and understand what happens if it changes.
Manufacturer support
Ask how the builder and dealer support owners after delivery — commissioning, warranty work, parts supply and technician access in your cruising area.
Depreciation considerations
Like most new assets, a new yacht typically loses value in its early years. The rate varies with the brand, model, market conditions and how the yacht is maintained. If resale value matters to you, factor it into your decision; nobody can promise a particular resale value.
Delivery inspection
Before accepting delivery, inspect the yacht carefully against the agreed specification, ideally with an independent professional. Record any defects or incomplete work in writing so they are addressed under the contract or warranty.
Understand the final delivered specification
Make sure you know exactly what will be delivered: the equipment list, options, finishes, electronics, commissioning work and any items that are excluded. A clear, signed specification prevents disputes later.
Ownership and operating costs
New boats still need insurance, berthing, routine maintenance, fuel and possibly crew. See our ownership costs guide.
Availability, factory options, warranties, delivery schedules and pricing depend on each manufacturer and its dealer arrangements. Mexico Yacht Sales is not an authorized dealer for any builder; manufacturer names are used for identification only.

FAQ
New-yacht questions
No. We are not an authorized dealer for any manufacturer. We help buyers understand the new-yacht process and can assist in sourcing; new-build contracts, warranties and delivery are arranged with the relevant builder or authorized dealer.
It depends on the builder, model, options and production schedule. Some models may be available from dealer stock; others are built to order with longer lead times. Ask for a written delivery schedule and understand what happens if it changes.
Coverage, duration and conditions differ by builder and by component — engines and major equipment often carry their own manufacturer warranties. Read the warranty documents before signing and ask how claims are handled where you will keep the yacht.
Many buyers commission an independent inspection before acceptance to identify defects and incomplete work while the builder or dealer is still responsible for correcting them.
Delivery logistics, documentation and import requirements depend on the builder, dealer, vessel and your circumstances. Confirm import or temporary-import requirements with a licensed customs broker.
