Yacht Buying & Selling FAQ
Clear answers to the questions buyers, sellers and owners ask most — from offers and surveys to ownership costs, management and sourcing across Mexico.
Boat buyers
Begin with how you will use it — cruising area, guests, overnight or day use, fishing or entertaining — and a budget that includes running costs. Then browse our listings or send us your brief. See how buying works.
Yes, buyers do. Plan for delivery, export documentation and Mexican import or temporary-import requirements, which depend on your circumstances. Confirm them with a licensed customs broker and maritime attorney.
That depends on the terms of the written agreement. Offers are usually conditional on survey, sea trial and sometimes financing. Read the agreement carefully and take independent advice.
Deposits are commonly held by a neutral party under a written agreement that sets out when they are refundable. Never pay a deposit without understanding those terms.
Boat sellers
Submit details and photos through our listing form. We review every submission and contact you to discuss presentation and pricing.
We discuss comparable vessels, condition, location and timing with you and recommend a realistic strategy. The final asking price is your decision.
No broker can honestly guarantee a sale, price or timeframe. Results depend on condition, price, presentation, location and market demand.
Not necessarily. Viewings can be arranged with your captain or representative. We brief buyers in advance.
New yachts
No. We are not an authorized dealer for any builder. We can help you compare models and prepare questions for builders and dealers.
Inspect the yacht against the agreed specification, ideally with an independent professional, and record any defects in writing so they are addressed under the contract or warranty.
Pre-owned yachts
It can be — often more boat for the money, with upgrades already installed. Value depends on condition and history, which must be verified through records, inspection and survey.
Service invoices, engine and generator logs, upgrade receipts, previous surveys where available, ownership and registration documents, and a written inventory.
Surveys & inspections
An independent inspection of a vessel’s hull, structure, systems and safety equipment by a qualified marine surveyor, usually with a haul-out and sea trial, resulting in a written report. See our survey guide.
Normally the buyer, so the surveyor works for the buyer. Haul-out and specialist fees are usually the buyer’s responsibility too.
Often, yes. General marine surveys may not include a detailed engine and generator evaluation; a specialist inspection and oil analysis are common for larger or diesel-powered yachts.
No. A survey reduces risk but cannot detect every issue, and the report will explain its limitations.
Ownership & maintenance
Typical costs include insurance, berthing or storage, maintenance and repairs, fuel, crew where needed, cleaning, haul-outs and documentation. See our ownership costs guide.
Regular washing, UV protection, corrosion control, scheduled engine and generator servicing, and attention to cooling and air-conditioning systems all help. Management partners can coordinate this for you.
It depends on the yacht’s size and complexity, your experience and local licensing requirements. Many owners run smaller yachts themselves; larger yachts are usually captained.
Yacht management
Ongoing care of a yacht — maintenance coordination, cleaning, systems checks, vendor management, marina arrangements and, if desired, charter management — usually by a specialist provider under a written agreement.
No. Many owners use private-use management simply to keep their yacht maintained and ready.
We connect owners with qualified management partners where applicable. Services and pricing are agreed with the provider. See yacht management.
Locations & sourcing
Buyers and sellers across Mexico’s boating markets, including Los Cabos, La Paz, Mazatlán, Puerto Vallarta and the Mexican Caribbean. See locations.
Yes. We search beyond our own listings, including larger yachts through our partner network.
No. Several are in the United States. Each listing shows its location when known.
